MUSICAL INFORMANCES FOR FIRST GRADERS:
During their 1st Grade year, students will prepare and present a musical informance for their families. An informance is a different type of concert. The students will have a typical music lesson, but the parents get a chance to watch and to participate (at least a little!). Here is the note that went home about informances:
Winchester 1st Grade Musical Informances
Dear First Grade Parents,
During your child’s elementary years in Northville Public Schools, your student will be involved in only three musical performances: in first, third and fifth grades. These performances are a wonderful way to build leadership and self-esteem as musicians, and teach students how to work together in a group as well. This is why it is so important to have your child attend all of these musical performances!
First graders will be presenting “INFORMANCES” – an informal music program that allows parents to observe a half hour music class in our multi-purpose room. Because only one class at a time is presenting, parents will have a better opportunity to observe their child experiencing a variety of musical roles. Please drop your child off in the music room 10 minutes before the informance start time, and then get your seat.
Here are the times for your student’s class:
Wednesday, March 4th:
5 – 5:30 p.m.- Ms. Nicholas' class / 5:45 – 6:15 p.m. – Ms. Carson’s
Thursday, March 5th:
5 – 5:30 p.m.- Ms. Borman's class / 5:45 – 6:15 p.m. – Ms. Lenard's
Please email or return the attendance sheet below to your student’s teacher, so we can make sure there are plenty of instruments available for all the participating students and seats for our audience. If that number changes, you don’t need to contact me, we plan for extras. Have your child dress for a typical school day and come prepared to sing along!
It is a pleasure to work with your children! Cecelia Mac-Smith at [email protected]
Please return this portion, Thanks!
My child _____________________ from Ms. _________________________ Class
will attend the informance.
_____ # of Audience members will attend.
How can you aid in your child’s musical development?
Because your student will be learning about percussion instruments, allow them to “create”instruments at home: a pair of wooden spoons make great drumsticks or, put some sand in a closed container for maracas! Create rhythm patterns to your child’s favorite music. Encourage them to share the music they learn at school. Have "sing-along" time in the car!
If they are very interested in the Percussion family, they can watch this video which has samples of instruments from that family!
