A Message from the DSO!!
While Orchestra Hall is closed, you can be a part of a DSO Watch Party.
DSO Watch Parties are a way for you to connect in real time with friends, family, and music fans around the globe to enjoy the artistry of your Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
While you can’t join us in Orchestra Hall, you can tune in on Facebook Live and experience a “live” DSO concert from the comfort of home. This is my 16th year of teaching music at Winchester school! I'm thrilled to be able to work with such an outstanding learning community:)
EXTENDED NPS CLOSURE - 3/13/2020
In compliance with Michigan's emergency measures, NPS schools are closed temporarily: evaluations will be made as to when they reopen. The district music teachers met to create a listing of exploratory resources for our families. The third & fifth grade classes who have been working on their concerts, can go over the music by opening my website then going to their grade level pages.
Here is the notice created by our NPS Elementary Music Teachers:
Dear NPS Elementary Families,
The music team has collaborated to provide optional exploratory resources for you to use with your student over the NPS extended closure. There is no requirement to use these sites, but please feel free to use these resources as/if you wish. You can also check for music resources on the sites shared by your child’s grade level teacher.
All concerts that were scheduled from now until the end of the year are “on hold.” We will communicate concert plans upon our return to school with guidance from our administrators.
OPTIONAL RESOURCES:
Josh Kolpak, Moraine, Ridge Wood, Winchester
Kristin Kreiss, Ridge Wood and Silver Springs
Cecelia Mac-Smith, Winchester

MUSICAL PERFORMANCES - Fall 2019 / Updated 3/14/2020
Students in Northville's district, will have performance opportunities in first, third and fifth graders. The First Grade's Informance will give families an idea of our musical curriculum. In Third & Fifth Grades, students perform in more traditional concerts. These concerts are team-building events: every student has a special role to play and each person supports the success of our performance. Because we rely on each other, we ask that all students attend their grade's concert. Thank you!
2019 / 2020 --- Winchester Concert Schedule
Dear Winchester Parents,
In the Northville School System, the First, Third and Fifth grades present a music program for their families. Each grade level does something a little different but they are all based on working together as a musical team. For that reason, we expect that all children will attend these programs.
Please mark these dates on your calendar now. We look forward to making music for you and your family!
GRADE 1 - Congratulations on your terrific informances!
Musical Informances on Wednesday 3/4/2020
5:00 - 5:30 = Ms. Nicholas' Class / 5:45 - 6:15 = Ms. Carson’s Class
Musical Informances on Thursday 3/5/2020
5:00 - 5:30 = Ms. Borman's Class / 5:45 - 6:15 = Ms. Lenard’s Class
An informance is informal, informational and a performance. Parents will get to see their children in a variety of music roles as they show what a typical music class looks like! Kids should dress in regular class attire:)
GRADE 3 - New date TBD
I CAN SING A RAINBOW
The third grade concert consists of songs about many colors: Prepare for a colorful songfest! Students will wear jeans and a plain white shirt (no print) and our school will provide bandanas in a variety of colors.
GRADE 5 - New date TBD
HIGHWAY U.S.A.
Join our fifth graders on a musical journey across the country! Each student will be given a special role in our concert. Whether working as a soloist, a singer in a select group, an instrumentalist, a sign-holder or a narrator, we learn that music makers have to synergize together. Apparel for the evening will be jeans and the 5th grade t-shirt students receive in their classrooms.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR MUSIC CLASS - Fall 2019
Third, Fourth & Fifth Graders are all required to bring a duo-tang, 3-prong folder with pockets and a pencil to every music class. If this was not a part of the school supply list sent home, I'll send a reminder note for students during the second week of school.
Starting in Fourth Grade and continuing through Fifth Grade, students will be learning to play the soprano recorder: they will need to bring their recorder to each music class. A note will be sent home regarding purchase of a recorder with different color choices available! If your student has a recorder that was purchased in this district, they will not need to buy a new one. I will post information regarding the instrument on my "Recorder" page.
